This CD presents George Crumb’s (b.1929) three mature
orchestral compositions together for the first time. (Crumb’s only
other orchestral effort to date is his early ‘doctoral thesis’–Variazioni).
This disc includes the Grammy-winning recording of Crumb’s magnum opus, Star-Child,
led by conductor Thomas Conlin, in a performance that won numerous awards from
the international press,. Also included are Crumb’s mysterious A
Haunted Landscape, one of the composer’s most colorful and mystic
compositions, and his Pulitzer Prize-winning Echoes of Time and the River,
a work both delicate and explosive. All three Warsaw/Conlin performances on
this CD earned stellar reviews and perfect 10/10 ratings at ClassicsToday.com,
and received overwhelmingly positive press in USA, Europe and the Far East.
George Crumb occupies an important position among today’s composers, and
this recording, compiling Crumb’s three orchestral works, is a major
addition to the Crumb discography.
