The first full-length book about the music of Poul Ruders has just been issued. Acoustical Canvases: The Music of Poul Ruders, by Per Erland Rasmussen, is a 439 page book in English that describes the outstanding Danish composer’s music piece by piece, from his earliest works, to his smash hit opera The Handmaid’s Tale. The book includes a bibliography, a discography and descriptions of all of Ruders’s compositions through 2006. The focus of the book is on Ruders’s compositional technique and the stylistic aspects of his work. The book is supported by 83 musical examples and diagrams, and includes photographs of the composer and colleagues.
