Music of Fred Lerdahl, Vol. 2
BRIDGE 9269

$ 14.99

This disc presents a survey of the music of one of America's least known great composers. Fred Lerdahl's work has been much written about but rarely heard. What accounts for a work like the brilliant Cross-Currents, which opens this disc, waiting more than twenty years to receive its first recording? The answer can be found in the absolute originality of Lerdahl's approach to composition.

Not a member of any school, he has forged his own path, writing works based on his own technique of expanding variations. At times tonal, at times atonal, these compositions sound like no one else's work.

This disc presents works composed over a 24-year period, from the delightful Waltzes of 1981, to the structually taught Duo of 2005. The disc ends with the gorgeously scored Quiet Music- a moto perpetuo for hushed orchestra. Fred Lerdahl's music can also be heard on BRIDGE 9191.
