Strings in Swingtime - Philharmonic Chamber Soloists
BRIDGE 9439

$ 14.99

Philharmonic Chamber Soloists, a chamber group of virtuoso musicians from the New York Philharmonic, present a historic re-recording of the 1942 Decca release of original songs by Jerome Kern, arranged for string quartet by Hollywood arranger Charles Miller. Also on this album are eight magnificent selections from the American Songbook arranged in the 1940s by Wladimir Selinsky for his NBC radio show, "Strings in Swingtime". This is the first time these arrangements have been recorded; in addition to string quartet, the performances feature guest artists from the New York Philharmonic on bass, harp, and vibraphone.

Reviews:

There is a feeling of depth and sadness that the use of a string quartet brings out in this music that makes the release of this program a more important event than one might anticipate. Katherine Greene’s Philharmonic Chamber Soloists is a beautifully balanced group. I hope to hear more from them.” - American Record Guide

It’s ambitious repertoire is realized brilliantly by the Philharmonic Chamber Soloists, who bring elegance and refinement to their interpretations of these unforgettable pieces of music.” - SCENE

These are faithful, warm and excellently recorded performances.” - MusicWeb International
